For the fuel modelling group of the STARS project, operated within the
Laboratory for Reactor Physics and Systems Behaviour (LRS), building a
multi-scale atomistic modelling component for nuclear fuels has become
a very attractive new research direction. To complete the team, we are
looking for a
Postdoctoral Fellow - Material Scientist or Physicist
Your tasks
You will develop together with senior staff a computational
methodology to investigate the transport properties of crystalline and
polycrystalline uranium dioxide. In particular, you will address
compelling scientific issues such as
the diffusion processes at grain boundaries. To this end, you will
perform large-scale molecular dynamics simulations using empirical
potentials.
Your profile
PhD degree in Materials Science or Physics. Hands-on experience with
molecular dynamics codes as well as good programming skills and
experience with parallel supercomputing are required. Knowledge of
other simulation techniques like ab-initio molecular dynamics and
kinetic Monte-Carlo are desirable. Self motivation and the ability to
work both independently and as part of a team are essential
requirements. Communication skills in English are required as you will
also participate in international projects.
